Immersion Guide
French Press Brewing Guide
French Press is built for fuller body and sweetness. Break the crust cleanly and keep steep time controlled for a balanced result.
Ratio 1:15-1:16
Water 91-94°C
Grind Medium-Coarse
Total 4:00-5:00
Step 1
Preheat the brewer and prepare the grind
Get ready with a medium-coarse grind
French Press setup and coffee weighing
Preheat the French Press with hot water. Grind 32g of coffee at a medium-coarse setting and keep the brew water in the 91-94°C range.
- 500g of water gives you a solid 1:15.6 starting ratio.
- If the grind is too fine, you will increase sediment and bitterness.
- If it is too coarse, the cup can become weak and thin.
Step 2
Start the brew and break the crust
Break the crust and clean the surface at 45 seconds
Breaking the crust and skimming the top layer
Pour all the water in one go. At around 45 seconds, gently break the crust with a spoon and remove the foam from the surface.
- Avoid aggressive stirring.
- Cleaning the surface improves cup clarity.
- You can keep the lid closed during the steep.
Step 3
Complete the steep time
Let the brew continue calmly until around 4:00. Do not stir again at this stage; keep the extraction stable.
- For lighter roasts, you can extend the steep to 4:30.
- For darker roasts, 3:45-4:00 often tastes cleaner.
- If balance is off, the first correction is usually grind size.
Step 4
Plunge and serve
Lower the plunger slowly and serve right away
Controlled plunge and immediate serving
Lower the plunger slowly until it just meets resistance at the surface. Serve all the coffee without letting it sit too long, or bitterness can increase.
- Do not force the plunger, or you will disturb the sediment.
- If the cup tastes bitter, go slightly coarser.
- If it tastes weak, go slightly finer on the next brew.
